Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
Just like in the offline world, when you launch a business, you have to tell people about it. You can’t just open shop and hope people find out about you, right?
A website works the same way. You need exposure, and since there are millions of people online, it is critically important to generate targeted traffic to your website.
Plain and simple — good SEO means more, higher quality traffic will be directed to your website. For example, if your company sells widgets in Calgary, you need to be on the first page of Google when someone searches for “Calgary widgets”. If it doesn’t, you might as well consider that business lost to a competitor.
There have been many studies done on the habits of search engine users, and they have continuously shown that most users don’t click past the first page of search results. You can probably confirm this with your own experience. How often do you look at the third or fourth page?
What does that mean for your business? It means that if you aren’t listed in the first couple pages of search results, your website might as well be invisible.
